Type an amount and see what MTN MoMo and Airtel Money deduct in Uganda. Figures start from the tariff sheets on mtn.co.ug and airtel.co.ug, checked 7 November 2026.
The figure above the breakdown is the extra amount deducted from the wallet. The person receiving a transfer still gets the full amount you entered. On a cash withdrawal, the agent pays you the amount you entered, and the wallet is charged that amount plus the fee plus the 0.5% tax.
Every mobile money charge in Uganda is a flat fee for a band, not a percentage of the amount. UGX 20,000 and UGX 30,000 can sit in the same band and cost the same network fee. Cash withdrawal adds a second charge: a government tax of 0.5% of the amount you take out. Sending to a phone, paying a bill, and moving money to a bank do not attract that 0.5% tax.

Read from MTN Uganda’s published Mobile Money tariff table. The top school-fees cell is printed as 5.750 on mtn.co.ug; the band below it is 5,750, so this site treats that cell as UGX 5,750. Source: MTN Mobile Money tariffs.
Airtel Uganda’s live site states that sending to another Airtel Money user starts at UGX 100 and the highest sending fee is UGX 1,000 up to UGX 7,000,000, and that the highest agent withdrawal fee is UGX 12,500 up to UGX 7,000,000. The band-by-band sheet is the tariff Airtel published (including the high-value withdrawal cut, down to UGX 12,500). Airtel’s public pages do not expose that full grid as an HTML table, so Fetch latest rates re-reads the site and keeps this sheet unless a newer table is found. International send charges on Airtel’s own notice run from UGX 900 to UGX 58,000. Source: Airtel Money.
MTN’s published send fee is UGX 100 up to UGX 5,000, UGX 500 from UGX 5,001 to 60,000, UGX 1,000 from UGX 60,001 to 500,000, UGX 1,500 up to UGX 1,000,000, and UGX 2,000 up to the UGX 5,000,000 transaction limit. The same fee covers MTN and other networks.
Airtel’s published send fee to another Airtel Money user is UGX 100 up to UGX 5,000, UGX 500 from UGX 5,001 to 60,000, and UGX 1,000 from UGX 60,001 up to UGX 7,000,000. Airtel’s own page says UGX 1,000 is the highest sending fee in that range.
MTN agent withdrawal starts at UGX 330 for UGX 500–2,500 and rises by band to UGX 20,000 for UGX 4,000,001–5,000,000. Add the 0.5% government withdrawal tax on the amount you cash out.
Airtel agent withdrawal follows the same lower bands as MTN, then stays at UGX 12,500 from UGX 500,001 through UGX 7,000,000. The 0.5% withdrawal tax is added on top.
The 0.5% tax applies to cash withdrawals, not to sending money, receiving money, bill payments, or wallet-to-bank transfers.
Deposits, receiving money, airtime, bundles, balance checks, mini statements, PIN changes, registration, and roaming access are free on MTN’s tariff page.
